Best Things to do on a Layover

By Dennis Heenan July 27, 2018

We absolutely love traveling all over the world and know many people travel by airplanes on a regular basis. It truly is amazing to realize how easy flying and traveling almost anywhere in the world is these days!

But anyone who knows what traveling entails, knows that layovers are a huge part of the traveling experience.

A lot of time is spent waiting at the airport—where you are killing hours upon
hours of time between flights.

There really is no way around avoiding layovers or long travel days, so we wanted to give some
awesome tips about the best things to do on a layover for your overall health!

Best Things to Do On a Layover:

-STRETCH! Sitting on a plane for an hour to 14 hours can really cause your hips and
muscles to be tight. Simply choosing to take 15-20 minutes to stretch out your body
can really help to increase blood flow, open up tight muscles, and help you feel
better! Even if you only have five minutes, we still suggest trying to get some stretches in!

-MOVE! Taking a long walk within an airport and browsing around can be
extremely beneficial to your health and a great use of your time. If you are feeling
stiff, then it is the perfect time to get up and moving! It can help to get your blood flowing in your body. Choosing to walk rather than that the escalator. Do some lunges while walking near the shops. Get in some squats while filling up your water bottle. The more you move, the more your body will thank you!

-EAT REAL, ONE-INGREDIENT FOODS! We ALWAYS try to bring healthy, simple snacks
with us when we travel. But even if you don’t have any snacks with you, you can find
one-ingredient food or snacks within an airport. We recommend trying to find some
nuts, veggies, fruit, or some protein! This is a great way to make sure you are
continuing to fuel your body well! Some of our favorite snacks to pack include: Rice cakes, beef jerky, and veggies!

-DRINK WATER! Did you know because of the cabin pressure in an airplane, it is
easier to get dehydrated? With this being the case, we recommend making sure to
bring a reusable water bottle and drinking a lot of water at the airport! You want to
make sure you are staying hydrated so your body can function well and you can feel your best!

So, next time you find yourself on a short or long layover at the airport, give these a
try!

They are part of our overall goal of simplifying health and fitness!
