Staying Motivated = Faster Results & More Fun!
We all know that good intentions do not always lead to achieved results. Here are a few tips to stay motivated so those good intentions can turn into reaching your goals:
1) Find a buddy.
It has been proven over and over again that having someone (or multiple) people around you to lend support will lead to better results overtime. It is important to have at least one person there to help keep you accountable when you’re getting off track and to help encourage to keep going when times get hard.
2) Set short-term goals.
It’s oftentimes easier to see our broad and longer term goals such as “lose weight” or “eat healthy”. While these long term goals are important, we also need to have short term ones to act as “stepping stones” to help get us there. For example, if your goal is to “eat healthy” maybe start with having a veggie at each meal or replacing soda with sparkling water.
3) List out why you want to achieve this goal.
If you are more aware of the benefits of achieving this goal, motivation will be easier to access.
4) Be prepared to fight the low points.
It’s inevitable that at some point we all will feel a lag in motivation and will need a little boost. Be prepared with some tactics to counteract these low points. For example, try posting your list of benefits so you can review them daily.
5) Don’t be afraid to be flexible.
Often our goals will morph over time as we experience what works and what doesn’t. Have a strategy but don’t be afraid to change the course. If something isn’t working, don’t get discouraged. Just try something else!
6) Celebrate progress.
No matter how small, it’s important to celebrate process along the way. This means you will have to find a way to track your progress. It’s fun to look back and see how far you’ve come.
7) Reward yourself.
As you achieve these stepping stones, have a reward ready to celebrate that progress.
Now it’s your turn… What keeps YOU motivated?
