Countless times we get people asking us if they can still build muscle while carb cycling?
The short answer is YES! You absolutely can!
Now, let me explain in more in depth for you so you can understand why!
Carbohydrates and consuming them are essential to building muscle and performing well in workouts. Unfortunately, the word “carbs” get a bad rep in the health and fitness industry often.
Many people when they hear the word “carb” think of things like “bread, cake, pizza, pasta, cookies” and the list can go on.
But, we are here to tell you that not all carbs are created equal…
We always recommend consuming real, one-ingredient foods. That is true for carbs also! Our favorite carbs include: sweet potatoes, potatoes, brown and white rice, quinoa, black beans, oats, and fruit!
These complex carbs we just listed are great and essential to one’s body for building muscle!
What is so great about carb cycling is that on your lower carb days, you are able to keep low insulin levels to help the process of burning fat. On your high carb days, you metabolism is revved up from the complex carbs to give you an extra boost with your hard workout and help you to build muscle.
So, when you combine carb cycling days of both low carb and high carb, you can effectively do three things:
1) Burn fat on your low carb days
2) Build muscle on your high carb days
3) Perform well in your workouts to build those muscles and reach your goals!
Does it sounds too good to be true?
We thought so, but we truly have found carb cycling to be the most effective and sustainable nutritional approach!
