Is it time to break up with your CARDIO routine?
It seems like we have been told for years now that traditional cardio is essential to losing weight and helping get our bodies where we want to be.
Here is what we mean by traditional cardio: performing a movement such as running, elliptical, biking, etc. at one constant speed over a loooooonnnnggg period of time.
If this type of cardio has been a struggle for you to stick with or enjoy, there’s GOOD NEWS!
It continues to be proven that this is not the most effective approach to your workouts to help get the results you want.
So, what should we be doing instead?!
HIIT – High Intensity Interval Training
This type of training allows you to perform varied movements intensely at set intervals. It does not have to be long because you are working HARD during the time that you are working! This type of workout allows your body to work at a much greater intensity which kicks it into fat burning mode.
Never tried a HIIT workout or need some new ideas?! Give this workout a shot:
Perform each movement for 20 seconds and then rest for 10 seconds and repeat for 4 total rounds:
– Bodyweight Squats – 20 seconds
10 seconds rest
– Pushups – 20 seconds
10 seconds rest
– Alternating Lunges – 20 seconds
10 seconds rest
– Burpees – 20 seconds
10 seconds rest
REPEAT for a total of 4 rounds!
This workout takes only 8 minutes to complete but if you are working hard in each of the 20 seconds, you will definitely be feeling the burn!
